The present paper assesses the potential of kinematic relative positioning of formation satellites in low Earth orbit making use of dual frequency GPS measurements. For the carrier phase measurements, it is known that these observations can be very precise, but contain integer ambiguities. Therefore a reliable ambiguity estimation strategy is the key factor for relative positioning. The LAMBDA/MLAMBDA method is chosen to resolve the integer ambiguities of the L1 and L2 carrier phase measurements. The feasibility and accuracy of this processing scheme are demonstrated using GPS measurements for two satellites separated by baselines of 100 km.
