摘要

Subsea structures on the seabed may be impacted by free-floating or scouring icebergs. A drift-based Monte Carlo iceberg contact model was developed as part of the SIRAM (Subsea Ice Risk Assessment and Mitigation) program for calculating iceberg impact risk for subsea structures on the northeast Grand Banks offshore Newfoundland and the Makkovik Bank on the Labrador Shelf. The motivation for developing this model was to characterize the influence of bathymetry (i.e., seabed orientation, ridges and basins) on iceberg interaction rates with subsea structures. Results were incorporated into a GIS-based application to allow iceberg contact rates to be calculated for structures with a range of plan dimensions and elevations at various locations.
