Laser Welding of Cr-Ni Austenitic Steels to Structural Carbon Steel

The contribution deals with disk laser welding of CrNi austenitic stabilized steel, CrNi austenitic non-stabilized steel, as well as welding of these steels to structural carbon steel. Characteristics of welded materials are introduced including their mechanical and physical properties. Arrangement of the welded steels in the welding fixture, including weld shielding in inert gas atmosphere are discussed. Welding parameters and conditions for welding of mentioned steels are suggested and experimentally tested. TruDisk 8002 disk laser with the maximum output power of 8 kW was used for welding. Temperatures developed in the heat affected zone were measured using thermocouples and used for verification of the results of numerical simulation of welding process. Quality control of welds was evaluated by optical microscopy, microhardness measure-ments across welded joints and EDX microanalysis.
