INFLUENCES OF CULTURES AND RACES ON MEMORY COLOUR AND COLOUR QUALITY EVALUATION

Memory colours, the colours associated with familiar objects in long term memory, can potentially be used to evaluate the colour quality of light sources. However, up till now most existing data focused on memory colours of western people. In this study, several Chinese memory colours were determined using a designed experimental setup similar as the one described by Smet et al. All observers were of Chinese origin and had normal colour vision. A comparison of these Chinese memory colours with those of western people showed that cultural and regional differences would have a small influence on memory colour based colour quality evaluation. A method for improving the set of memory colour data of people of different cultures and regions is proposed.
