Glasses having thermochromic properties have recently gained importance in glass science and technology due to their potential use in advanced technological applications, such as thermometers, temperature sensors, laser marking, warning signals, etc. Alkaline oxide containing tungsten-tellurite glasses have a potential to be used in thermochromic applications. In the present study, glasses in the TeO_2-WO_3-Na_20 system were prepared by a conventional melt-quenching technique at 750 °C to construct the glass formation map of the ternary system. Thermal behavior of glasses was investigated by DSC technique in terms of the glass transition (T_g) and crystallization (T_c/T_p) temperatures and glass stability (T) values. Density (p), molar volume (V_M), oxygen molar volume (V_o) and oxygen packing density (OPD) values were determined to investigate the physical and structural properties of glasses. The structural transformations on the glass network were investigated at different temperatures by FTIR spectroscopy analyses.
