Power to Methanol is a cross sectoral energy storage 1.1 avoids curtailment of RES & allows an increased RES installation 1.2 avoids cost of curtailment, extensive grid refurbishment & electricity storage 1.3 reduces agricultural land use for biofuels, and 1.4 reduces emissions in industry, energy and transport sectors 2. Power to Methanol can be economically built today at industrial scale (100+kt/year) 3. CO2 capture and PtMeOH are commercially available today 4.
