Over the last few years, the constant increase of energy derived from renewable energy sources ("RES"), fostered by incentive policies enacted by EU Member States on the basis of EU guidelines, as well as the impact of the economic crisis which has brought a general decrease in the demand for electricity, and the introduction of price caps on energy tariffs, have led to a situation of general overcapacity and low wholesale market prices, which in their turn, have put traditional energy sources power plants under a considerable amount of pressure to remain competitive in the market.
