The politically spurred energy transition in Germany and the corresponding subsidies to renewable energy sources lead to an increasingly decentralized energy generation structure in Germany. For the coming years and decades the Federal Government has set clear objectives concerning the change from conventional to renewable energy, including among others the nuclear phase-out by 2022. In this course renewable energy sources are set to have an 18 percent share of the gross final consumption of energy by 2020. This share is set to increase up to 60 percent until 2050.
