In shallow Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD),potential ground surface movement is an important issue,which is dependent on the soil characteristics and drilling parameters.In this paper,the soil parameters considered include soil density,modulus of elasticity,friction angle,Poisson’s ratio,cohesion,and soil porosity.In order to obtain the effect or degree of influence of these parameters,the method of Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua Three Dimensions was utilized in the simulation models,which included two parts.The radial model was applied to the soil layer and the cylinder model to the horizontal borehole.The inner diameter of the radial model is equal to the borehole diameter.A total of eleven points at the model surface were monitored to determine the degree of movement and the distribution.The soil displacement vector around the borehole was obtained and the Tech Plot software was used to obtain the isoclines of the Z displacement around the borehole.The simulation results indicated that the elastic modulus,soil density and Poisson ratio had a significantly greater effect degree on the ground surface movement than the other parameters.
