An Efficient FB-based Underground Channel Estimation for MIMO Mm-Wave Systems

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm based on the concept of Forward-Backward (FB) compressing sensing principle for underground mm-wave channel estimation. The efficiency of FB approach is successfully verified in the context of MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system. To reach that, the approach relies on the channel support forward selection and backward removal, which iteratively expands and compresses the support estimate, hence improving the ability to cover up for the errors made in the conventional orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. The superiority of the FB-based channel algorithm in reconstructing the original sparse channel, over the OMP alternative, is highlighted by evaluating the estimation accuracy, when applied on underground mm-Wave channel measurements.
