Aromatic Polyester Polyols with Pre- and Post-Consumer Content and Renewable Materials with Third Party Certification

Given concerns for the environment, polyurethane raw materials that contain recycled and renewable materials can help contribute to more sustainable products and end uses. Huntsman now has aportfolio of aromatic polyester polyols with pre-consumer, post-consumer and renewable content, and with options and the ability to produce these in a more concentrated fashion, thus allowing for a high postt-consumer recycled content polyol for certain applications. The sources of pre-consumer recycled content are primarily industrial in nature; they can range from materials used in molding processes to sub-prime materials meant for other applications. For post-consumer materials, these are primarily drink bottle scrap that have been sorted, cleaned and chipped for processing. Huntsman has recently retained the services of UL Environment to certify their pre-consumer recycled, post-consumer recycled and renewable resource content claims. This paper demonstrates that the Huntsman TEROL~R Performance Polyols business possesses the technology expertise and logistics to provide a third- party certified range of recycled content and renewable content polyols of consistent quality which yield processing and properties comparable to those using virgin, petrochemical- based resources. The environmental benefits of such polyol products can be enjoyed by our customers without performance or other penalties. Huntsman believes combining this with third-party certification of certain sustainability attributes by UL Environment, customers using TEROL~R aromatic polyester polyols can design their own products with confidence and meet preferred purchasing protocols. We believe Huntsman's TEROL Performance Polyols products have achieved industry leading levels of sustainability.
