Perineal wounds come with a unique set of considerations. They are commonly contaminated and may also be infected with organisms that are commonly found in feces. These include coliform and anaerobic organisms. Appropriate selection of antibiotics should be empirically made while waiting for bacterial culture results. Empirical antibiotics may include amoxicillin/clavulanate or a combination of enrofloxacin and amoxicillin or metronidazole.
