In recent years, several concrete dams try a fast pouring method. To achieve the fast construction aim, thicker pouring layer or shorter interval is adopted. The fast pouring idea is introduced and then the layer thickness and pouring interval are analyzed. To reveal the temperature and stress safety of the fast pouring dam, numerical simulation is applied in a high roller compacted concrete dam. The layer of 3m, 4.5m and 6m are simulated and analyzed separately. The main disadvantage of thicker layer is more temperature difference between concrete inner and surface which will cause more surface tensile stress in early age. But the shortcoming can be overcome by reasonable combination of pouring temperature, pipe cooling and surface insulation. The temperature control measure and the corresponding norm have been applied in the actual construction. In the construction of past 2 years, nearly no crack appeared in the fast pouring concrete dam.
