Grinding kinetic tests and wear of grinding media were performed with a representative sample of a poor itabirite from the Iron Quadrangle. The tests aimed to determine the parameters of breaks and selection of the sample, and estimate the rates of wear of different sizes of grinding media. After the tests simulations were carried out to evaluate the effect of different sizes of grinding media on the performance of the grinding circuit and the generation of ultrafines (slimes), were also evaluated the effect of size on the wear rate and operating cost (opex).
