"Bad" reactions that occur in Li-ion cells: 1. Continued SEI growth (consumes Li); 2. Electrolyte oxidation (consumes electrolyte and can deplete salt); 3. Transition metal dissolution (damages positive electrode and can perturb SEI); 4. Impact of water and hence HF (can create damage to SEI and to positive electrode); 5. etc. We should be able to detect these, and other parasitic reactions that consume charge, coulometrically.
