The role of Die shop management is vital in the extrusion industry. With proper Die shop management, the efficiency of all the downstream processes can be increased considerably, resulting in enhancing the profitability of the organization. In order to have control over the following aspects, the die shop efficiency could be improved as follows: 1. Focus on a new profile inquiry handling procedure, which includes accepting the profiles that are feasible to extrude with reasonable productivity & recovery; 2. Focus on die designs in order to minimize the number of trials required to achieve the desired profile shape and zero trials for backup dies; 3. Proper tool inventory management; 4. Effective control of backup die ordering by reviewing the performance of the existing die and forecasted sales order volume; 5. Reduction in Die failures by having proper die designs and the appropriate correction approach. On-time delivery is the objective of any extruder and hence, the above-mentioned control strategies applied over the present working extrusion industry and the resulting enhanced profitability proves the strategies' significance. In addition, reduction of the percentage of scrap, rework/rejection rate, and defects help to fulfill customer satisfaction and customer demands.
