Aluminum extrusion companies fiercely compete with each other for orders and market share, and constantly compete with alternative material solutions. While competition can occur based on quality, supply reliability/flexibility, relationships, or on many other attributes, often price is a key consideration. Price can primarily be affected by controlling the underlying cost of producing and distributing the extrusions, or by varying profit margins. This paper will describe a simple, data-based, disciplined, effective, and proven method utilized to continuously monitor and improve both productivity and scrap across multiple extrusion presses, in multiple physical locations. The Certification System process is core to a company's ability to ensure the data integrity necessary to properly cost, plan, and execute an effective extrusion operation.
