Copyright and Rights Management in the Digital Academic Publishing in the USA

摘要

Copyright is a legal mechanism to give authors certain exclusive rights to the work they have created and give them some protections. The traditional copyright protection is for the academic printing publications, but with the academic publishing having increasingly turned digital in the past decade, traditional copyright system meets great challenges. Some strategies have been implemented to step up copyright protection for the digital work. Digital rights management have provided academics with a certain degree of intellectual property protection and digital legal deposit requirements provide libraries with rights to be able to preserve their digital collections. The trend toward digital academic publishing cannot be stop, so in order to avoid copyright disputes, some other solutions based on both the legal system and technology must be developed.
