Microporous membrane gas absorption (MGA) became important in the late 1990s when global warming issues were identified, and it was realized that greenhouse gases needed to be treated as a waste and captured. As a way to address the greenhouse effect, MGA is considered a promising alternative to conventional and potential large-scale technology for the recovery and removal of carbon dioxide (CO_2) [1]. CO_2 is released into the atmosphere from the combustion of fossil fuels, and it is thought to contribute to undesired global warming. The operating principle of MGA is schematically shown in Figure 17.1.
