The wake flow behind two intersecting flat plates forming a cross is studied by means of direct numerical simulation (DNS). In the current case the Reynolds number based on the plate width, d, and the inflow velocity, U_0, is 1000. The structure is in one plane and placed normal to the inflow. The instantaneous velocity field as well as Reynolds-averaged statistical quantities are investigated in order to show the three-dimensional wake flow complexity at the intersection. The wake behind the branches away from the center part of the body, which shows similarities to the wake behind a single flat plate, is evaluated and compared with the previous studies.
