Experimental studies and clinical trials have shown that vascular endothelial dysfunction develops inaging. We tested vasoconstriction (phenylephrine, PE) and vasodilatation (acetylcholine, ACh; bradykinin, BK)in endothelium-intact mesenteric artery and aortic rings from 6, 12 and 33 weeks old Wistar rats in vitro. PEconstriction (in grams) was increased in mesenteric arteries of 12 and 33 weeks old rats when compared to 6weeks old rats. ACh-induced mesenteric artery relaxation was clearly better in 6 and 12 weeks old rats vs. 33weeks old rats, while the difference was smaller in aortas. A novel finding was similar phenomenon in BKinducedrelaxations. This can be explained by decreased number of BK-type 2 receptors described by us earlier.
