摘要

The present paper presents the results obtained by implementing the project "FRED GOES NET -Timely interventions for drug consumers that have been identified for the first time", at Timiu county level, in the year 2011. The goal of the project coordinated by the National Antidrug Agency, with the support of UNICEF and the Romanian Harm Reduction Network, was realizing timely interventions with youth that have been identified for the first time as having used legal or illegal drugs (especially by police, but also by the schools and/or work, employers, or by parents/ legal guardians), in view of reducing the risks associated with drug addiction. The target group consists of adolescents and youth that have used drugs and were identified as consumers, but have not yet become addicts, the focus being on those aged 14-21. Drug use plays a significant role in society, legal and illegal drugs being present at all times. Young people are provoked by the need of developing their own attitude towards drug use, and also need to achieve responsibility in relation to drugs. The faster you intervene in the cases that require it, the greater the odds of exerting a positive influence. Notification with regards to legal or illegal drug use is viewed as a signal that young people need help learning how to be responsible with regards to psychoactive substances. Giving them information and the opportunity to contemplate in a critical manner their own consumption is another means of extending help. In this sense, the project FRED also acted as a frame of identifying those that should be encouraged to seek additional help. Timely intervention answered the youngsters cry for help and offered specific support. The purpose of the intervention was stopping the development of problematic drug use. The focus group and the qualitative analysis of the interventions done at the Timiu county level by the group of specialists demonstrate the utility and need of such timely interventions.
