Using uniformly distributed YBO_3:Eu~(3+) phosphors, we demonstrate the emissive luminescent layer applicable to transparent plasma-discharged display panels (PDPs). We prepared uniform and oval-shaped YBO_3:Eu~(3+) particulates by a solvothermal method that were composed of crystalline primary nanoparticles (~10 nm in diameter) and analyzed the particle morphology, luminescence, and after-glow behaviours of the resultant nanophosphors. We fabricated prototype highly transparent PDPs and describe their luminance characteristics regarding optimal process conditions. The resultant YBO_3:Eu~(3+) phosphors with monodispersed shape can be widely used for the luminescent materials of upcoming display devices, such as three-dimensional imaging and transparent displays.
