ISO 50001:A basis for the developtnenf and establishment of energy management systems in the mining industry

The main motivation for the development of an International Standard for Energy Management is sustained by the need for an extended culture of energy efficiency, in a permanent and definitive way, for all organisations around the world. Energy is a fundamental input for a great part of the productive activities in the modern world and is becoming more and more essential in the mining industry. The requirements of the new International Standard 'ISO 50001 -Energy Management Systems-Requirements with guidance for use' promote the search for continuous improvement in sustainable energy performance related to use, consumption, and energy efficiency; allowing organisations to establish set procedures in order to reach said objective.
