The close relationships of indigenous peoples and local communities to their natural environment depend on the availability of the biological resources that have sustained them over many centuries, a situation that is becoming increasingly rare worldwide. The centuries-old traditions and lifestyle of indigenous peoples are tightly connected with the specifics characteristics of the environments in which they live, where their ancestors have lived, from whom they have inherited the practice of coexistence and careful preservation of the environment.
