LIFECYCLE COST STUDY FOR MAINTENANCE PAINTING AT COAL EXPORT TERMINAL

Asset owners spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year to remediate corrosion and deterioration of steel structures. The corrosion and deterioration of steel structures in marine environments has emerged as a most severe and demanding challenge for the owners of these assets. What is required is the capability to assess the corrosion degradation of structures and implement an effective remediation and maintenance solution committed to the philosophy that all structural remediation methods must be founded upon thorough investigation of the cause and extent of the deterioration and distress. This can be done by means of a through asset condition assessment and corrosion audit. Once this is completed we can then proceed to produce a complete maintenance painting program for the lifecycle of the structures. It is a crucial part of asset management to determine the remaining lifecycle of an asset and the capability of the asset to meet the designed performance and level of service requirements. Being unaware of the current condition of an asset may lead to the premature failure of the asset leaving limited options to the facility owner with replacement being the most expensive option. Unforeseen failure of an asset provides major consequences that constitute a risk to business operations or potential loss to the organisation.
