European REACH regulations have prompted the need to replace the use of hexavalent chromium in the electroplating process for Electro Chromium Coated Steel (ECCS). Trivalent Chromium Coated Technology steel has been developed by TATA Steel to replace ECCS. ECCS is lacquered in its final application and has excellent resistance to underfilm corrosion. Therefore, prototype Cr~+ coated steel materials were investigated for their resistance to cathodic disbondment, in-situ, using the Scanning Kelvin Probe technique (SKP).
