Quick Acquisition of Wheat Ear Morphology Parameter Based on Imaging Processing

Wheat ear morphology parameters are of great concern of the breeding experts and are important for the reflection of wheat growth status. In order to realize the fast non-destructive measurement of wheat ear morphology parame- ter, a method based on image processing was proposed to auto extract the awn number, average awn length, ear length and ear type. First, wheat awn was eliminated leaving only the main part of wheat image through morphology op- eration, then ear length was obtained through the finding of angle of major axis, spinning and calculating of the bounding box length. Awn length and awn number were counted by refining of the wheat awn image and corner detection. Lastly awn type was determined by the ratio of width coefficient.
