Aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) was employed to purify resveratrol from peanut vine. The aqueous two-phase system (ATPS) composed of alcohol and inorganic salt was investigated in details, including the effects of phase composition, concentration of the organic solvent and inorganic salt, temperature and extraction time. The optimal differential partitioning of resveratrol was achieved in the system composed of 40% (w/w) ethanol and 10% (w/w) ammonium sulphate, at 25 ±1°C for 20 min, where the recovery and the partition coefficient was 99.18% and 26.75, respectively. The content of resveratrol in crude extracts was 0.2%, and the content of resveratrol in the extract by ATPE was 1.83%, as a comparison. The aqueous two-phase extraction process was simple and useful for extraction of resveratrol from peanut vine which may be developed as a new technology for isolation natural products in future application.
