摘要

Brain aging is accompanied by cognitive decline which generates a considerable socioeconomic burden. Dementia is the main cause of chronic disability in older persons. The most frequent cause of dementia is Alzheimer's disease (AD), an irreversible condition in our present state of knowledge. There is an urgent need of preventive strategies which could help to slow down brain aging. Nutrition is a promising area for prevention of age-associated cognitive disorders and there is a growing interest in the putative protective effects of antioxidants, folate and other B vitamins, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA).
