I have misgivings about giving this talk. I am no classics scholar, and what I know about Aristotle and ancient Greece is what I learned in school. We are here at this fine place, however, to discuss questions that none of us is fully qualified to answer. What I really know something about, taking care of patients with heart disease, is not central to these questions. So I agreed to Artemis' suggestion to give a talk about ancient Greece and one of the major problems of our own time, climate change, for one reason only: to encourage us all to discuss matters outside as well as inside of our own ranges of expertise.
