Methane (CH_4) is an important greenhouse gas which is responsible for 20% of global warming [1]. 40% of methane originates from agriculture, and enteric methane from ruminant livestock enteric emission contributes 3-8% to the total greenhouse gas effect [2, 3]. Reducing methane emissions from polygastric animals presents significant opportunities for improving the environment as well as cattle feed efficiency since methane emissions represent a loss of energy for animals [4, 5].
