Stoichiometric MgCr_2O_4 spinel nanocrystals were prepared by a microwave method in which polyvinyl alcohol and Mg and Cr nitrates with a molar ratio of metal ion to PVA monomer unit of 1:3 were exposed to microwaves (2.45 GHz) at different powers in the range of 400 W to 900 W were used as precursors to the MgCr_2O_4 spinel. The MgCr_2O_4 nanocrystals were produced by calcining the precursors at temperatures higher than 500 C. The MgCr_2O_4 nanocrystals were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
