Scatter characteristics of fatigue limit for steels and magnesium alloys was discussed in this paper. Scatter behavior of fatigue limit could be represented by the Weibul distribution more than the Normal distribution for both the materials. The scatter of fatigue limit for the extruded magnesium alloy was smaller than that of the steels. The die-cast magnesium alloy with casting pores indicated significantly larger scatter compared to the extruded magnesium alloy without pores. The scatter behavior of fatigue limit was confirmed to be comparable to that of tensile strength for both the steel and the magnesium alloy. This small enough scatter of fatigue limit may assure that the fatigue limit obtained according to the standard fatigue test method is reliable enough to use for fatigue design purpose.
