Geochemical modeling is used extensively in investigations of karst aquifers, yet geochemical modeling may have a different connotation to different researchers depending upon the objective of the investigation (Table 1). Some common objectives with different requirements include: (i) thermodynamic geochemical modeling of aqueous solutions; (ii) geochemical transit-time models for estimation of groundwater "age" (time of travel from point of recharge to point of discharge); and (iii) geochemical modeling of end-member source proportions. All three of these applications often involve mixing between multiple source solutions or end-members.
