@@Microcystis is a major genus forming blooms in freshwater lakes and reservoirs, generally dominating in eutrophic water bodies with low water renewal rate during high water temperature period. In the present study, our aim is to describe genotypic diversity of Microcystis and its temporal dynamics in field experimental ponds, and also to characterize dominant genotypes forming blooms. To experimentally induce its bloom formation, inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus were supplemented every two weeks. Plankton communities were collected from Lake Biwa and concentrated with a 5 μm mesh size plankton net to introduce them into the ponds.
