Dexen is a cross-platform Distributed Execution ENvironment that can be used to run population based computational jobs in parallel on multiple computers at the same time, on any networked computing infrastructure, including compute clusters and cloud computing platforms.Dexen is particularly well suited to running population based multi-objective optimisation jobs. For such jobs, the job definition will typically include three types of tasks : development, evaluation, and feedback. The development task is used to generate design models, and the evaluation tasks are used to evaluate these models with respect to certain performance criteria. Finally, the feedback task uses the results from evaluation to kill some low performance individuals, and generate some new individuals using crossover and mutation.
