Quality, quantity, 'effective' production of effect pigmented plastics

The manufacture of masterbatches for the plastics industry is sometimes called a "black art" or "magic". This is quite true of the number of methods employed in the industry. However this "black art" becomes even more magical when dealing with effect pigments. Most processing methods in making masterbatch and compounds are geared towards shear dispersion of organic or inorganic solid color pigments. Unfortunately these methods are deleterious to effect pigments. The nice glittery and colorplay pigment is damaged by shear with disastrous consequences for the visual effect.
