University entrepreneurship education is an emerging field in China, receiving increasing attention of late by policy makers and universities seeking to offer employment options for the burgeoning number of university graduates, and to provide skills to fuel China's entrepreneurial ambitions. This paper examines the state of entrepreneurship education in China, drawing on interviews with professors from eight advanced Chinese universities and an analysis of 26 top U.S. university entrepreneurship programs. Implications for policy makers and educators include the following. Entrepreneurship education in China should target two main objectives: to foster positive attitudes about entrepreneurship and develop skills for starting businesses. The transition from traditional faculty and practices will be a challenge for many universities, however, particularly with respect to the need for multidisciplinary and experiential approaches. Additionally, Chinese universities and policy makers will need to complement these programs with efforts aimed at ensuring a healthy external ecosystem for entrepreneurship.
