Seaport Efficiency in China

摘要

This paper analyzes the operational efficiency of major seaports worldwide with Total Factor Productivity indexes, categorizes major seaports on the basis of geographic locations and national GDP tables, and compares China's seaport with seaports around the world. This paper adopts appropriate input and output indicators and correlates the input and output tables of 9 major Chinese seaports and 41 main seaports worldwide in the period from 2003 to 2007. This research shows that all sampled seaports experienced substantial increases in total output and most of them also saw rising operational efficiency. This research also proves that technological improvements in seaport operation are playing a positive role in enhancing efficiency in Chinese ports.
