Since the 1960s polyurethane flexible foams have been widely marketed as foam upholstery for various seating applications and in the past 50 years polyurethane foams gained a considerable global market share within the large family of foamed plastic products. Nowadays mattresses, furniture upholstery and seats for the automotive and public transportation industry are almost exclusively produced from polyurethane flexible foams due to their ease of processing and their outstanding mechanical properties combined with low foam densities.
