When designing a focusing lens an asphere is a perfect solution. However, when it comes down to fabrication a whole new class of error types has to be considered. It is demonstrated how those can be implemented into the optical design process in order to give a reliable prediction on how the asphere will perform on its one or within a complex optical system. This serves as a basis for optimizing optical systems, too.
