PID controller is one of the most used controller in the industry. Its simple structure and robust design make it attractive. However, tuning the parameter of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller have limitations. Heuristic method, such as Ziegler Nichols (ZN) method, have difficulties with nonlinear system. Generalized Reduced Gradient (GRG) nonlinear tuning method is proposed to overcome the challenges of nonlinear system. It will determine the optimal solutions based on regression and sampling. Remote control weapon station (RCWS) 12,7 mm is used as an example of nonlinear system. Result of both ZN method and GRG method have been compared through simulation study. GRG method shows its superiority in every critical performance indicator.
