To investigate how symptomatic patellar tendinopathy (PT) affects quadriceps contractions and Fente motion in elite fencers, this study assessed the isokinetic performance and knee kinematics. 24 elite fencers with symptomatic PT and 24 elite fencers without PT were recruited. Concentric/eccentric isokinetic strength tests of quadriceps were performed. Kinematic data of knee were collected using a motion analyses system. The affected subjects demonstrated significantly reduced angular velocities during backward Fente motion. The male subjects did not demonstrate any differences between the 2 groups. However, the affected female subjects demonstrated significantly weaker concentric peak torque at 60°/s, 180°/s and less concentric work at 60°/s. They also demonstrated significantly reduced angular velocities during backward Fente motion. Therefore, symptomatic PT seems to influence elite female fencers on performing backward Fente motion with concentric quadriceps contraction.
