ASSESSMENT OF POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS IN AN URBAN SOILDATASET

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) that are composed of two or more aromatic (benzene) rings fused together in a variety of configurations. PAHs are widely distributed in the atmosphere and in urban soils and are one of the first pollutants to have been identified as suspected carcinogens. In general, as the molecular weight of PAHs increases so does carcinogenicity, however acute toxicity, solubility and mobility decreases.
