Evolution of SHINKAI 6500

Manned Research Submersible SHINKAI6500 was built in 1989, and has been operated by Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) for 23 years. For the past 23 years, she dived over 1300 times and some instruments were replaced for higher functionality. For example, JAMSTEC has also tackled a replacement of thrusters and its controller related to motion performance. For the replacement, JAMSTEC prepared for 4 years, and finally new thrusters were installed on SHINKAI 6500 in 2012. In this report, the detail of replacement was described.
