SOFC600, a EU Project for Development of Low-Temperature SOFC

The objective of the SOFC600 project was the specification of stack components for the operation of SOFC systems at 600°C. The full title of the project, with contract number SES-2006-020089, is 'Demonstration of SOFC stack technology for operation at 600oC. It concerned a project within the FP6 Energy Programme (long-term developments) of the European Commission. It was an Integrated Project, coordinated by the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) that brought together virtually all major European expertise on planar SOFC cell and stack development, cooperating on the development of stack components for low-temperature operation. Additionally to the fourteen European partners the consortium comprised two Chinese organizations as well as organisations from Canada, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. This international status facilitated endorsement by the IPHE. The project started 1st of March 2006 and had a duration of four years. It concerned a basic research and development project, essentially working on generic SOFC technology, although with emphasis on stationary applications fuelled by natural gas.
