Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs) are very attractive power systems for portable commercial and military applications because they offer high energy density and improved fuel storage and transport logistics because methanol is a liquid fuel. However, the inherent material costs along with catalytic performance/stability have proven to be the key barriers to the commercial deployment of DMFCs. Therefore, next generation DMFC anode catalyst materials are needed to accelerate the commercialization of DMFCs for consumer electronics applications.
