Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are a class of ionic lamellar compounds with layered structure. They are made up of positively charged brucite-like layers with an interlayer region containing anions and solvation molecules. Generally, LDHs can be written as [M_(1-x)~(2+)M_x~(3+)(OH)2][A~(n-) ]x/n·zH2O, where M~(2+) and M~(3+) represents divalent and trivalent metal ions respectively. LDHs are promissing cathod materials for hybrid supercapacitors. However, the low conductivity has limited their performance. Recently, it was introduced that through an exfoliation-restacking process, direct heterostacking of Co-Al or Co-Ni LDH monosheet and graphene (oxide) can be achieved. However, cobalt element is expensive and toxic. It’s thus desirable if Ni-Al LDH can be made into such composites in the same way.
