Addressing climate change and its deleterious effect on mankind engenders the need for the development of renewable energy technologies. However, the intermittent nature of renewable technologies such as solar and wind necessitates the development of energy storage media such as batteries. The most energy-dense batteries currently commercially available are lithium-ion batteries, although in their current format have reached their practical capacity limitations. This has created interest in developing newer battery chemistries.
